A few weeks ago a friend invited me to participate in something I have never done before: the making of a movie. He and some others are making a low-budget horror/comedy and desperately needed someone called a Script Supervisor. Basically, that is the person who watches the actors as they do their lines and makes sure there is continuity from scene to scene: that they hold the phone with the same hand, their clothes and hair are the same, they stand up on the same line every time, etc. Nick thought Iapos;d be perfect for the part (is my OCD that obvious?) and asked if Iapos;d want to join the team.
My initial reaction was panic. I am definitely one of those people who gets very nervous trying something completely new that I have no knowledge of in front of a bunch of people I donapos;t know. So though I didnapos;t say no, I told him Iapos;d need to think on it. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought it was something I should push myself to do. Film is one art form I have never gotten into, and as an artist I have always wondered about it. But the clincher for me was working with a script and seeing how the page translated onto the screen. As a writer, that knowledge would be invaluable. So, despite my fears, I decided to do it.
We met for the first time yesterday. I do a daily workbook and the recommendation for yesterday was this: Sometimes, itapos;s hard to change our mindset when weapos;re doing the same things in the same places, day in and day out. Today, challenge your routine and take yourself out of your comfort zone. You never know what experiences like this can revel to you. Iwas like, "Okay, I get it, I need to push myself more"
We worked from around 11 in the morning until almost 7:30 last night. And it was a blast I am so glad I decided to do it. And Nick was right, my personality and attention to detail allowed me to assist really well, and they were very happy to have me, which of course made me feel even better. And it was wonderful meeting so many new, great people.
After filming we went over to Nickapos;s and edited together the material from that day, and it was so incredibly cool to see it on the screen looking like segments from a real movie I honestly canapos;t wait until next weekapos;s filming
